Leo Janze

Leo Janze is Sr. Director of AI Patient Data Engineering at OPTUM, part of United Healthcare Group. He leads teams that develop systems to deploy and monitor generative and traditional AI models in production at scale. These AI systems derive insights from healthcare data such as medical records, radiology, and lab reports, streamlining healthcare operations and improving patient outcomes. Prior to Optum, Leo was Head of Data Engineering at Change Healthcare, where he led an AI platform processing 250 million pages of medical records per month. He also served as VP of Engineering at Apixio, a leading AI healthcare company, extracting clinical insights from billions of healthcare records. Before that, he led engineering and product management teams at startups and Fortune 500 companies. Leo is a speaker at AI conferences and podcasts and writes articles about AI in healthcare. He holds a Master’s in Computer Science from the University of Uppsala, two patents, and is a graduate of the Engineering Leadership Program at UC Berkeley.
