About The Speaker

Marv Sawyer

Managing Partner : Founder Corporate Management Group: 1987-Current Professional History: Marv’s career has encompassed over 35 years in operational management with corporate transportation departments within Fortune 500 companies (Lear Siegler, Consolidated Foods (now Sarah Lee Corp) and LearJet Corp). Recognizing his own skill set was tailored towards helping turn around unprofitable situations, Marv founded Corporate Management Group, LLC in 1987, where he serves as Managing Partner. CMG is unlike any other freight management company and was founded long before 3PLs came into existence. CMG partners with clients in 42 US markets, and 31% of clients are international. CMG currently manages over $650MM of annual freight expenses WITH its clients, as part of their management team. Marv has extensive experience in all facets of transportation and freight expenses, which includes domestic and international freight, prepaid-collect, vendor management, small packages, inbound or outbound, and private fleets. His unique style allows him to come alongside entities who are struggling and need assistance, to penetrate those hidden or bundled costs that can affect a client’s bottom line. He has a knack for diving below the surface and identifying opportunities that most cannot see, especially in the area of freight and freight spend. He has been invited to speak at various universities who specialize in logistics curricula, most recently to the Texas Manufacturers Association, hosted by the University of Texas this past year. Personally: Marv resides in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and is married to the most wonderful Christian lady, Kim, whose interest is speaking to women’s groups about her faith. (He jokes that his job is to get her to wherever she’s speaking.) They are parents to seven grown children and 13 grandchildren. After serving 2 years in the US Army, Marv attended Wichita State University, majoring in political science. His career path was diverted in his last semester of undergrad school and just prior to attending law school when he took a job loading freight on planes. It seems the intrigue of the freight industry AND business world proved too much of a pull, and he headed in a different direction from which he has not looked back. He and Kim are active members of Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina. Marv enjoys a good, weekly round of golf.
